Scope of Practice

My scope of practice is primarily "The Second Half of Life": deconstructing old hang-ups and barriers that lead to physical distress, mental turmoil, and the emotions of fear, powerlessness, anger, guilt and shame; constructing resources that lead to accomplishment, direction, peace and meaning.

I work with individuals experiencing life transitions that affect the quality of their personal and professional life, and who have a deep drive to find a more effective way of being. Often the quality of their life has been impacted by complexes that are maintained by compulsive/obsessive/addictive behaviors that lead to substance abuse and dependency.

The second half of life is not age-related. It happens when we are confronted with experiences that challenge our adaptation to the inner world. Our task is to move from the ego-conscious outer world of the first half of life to the unconscius inner world of the second half of life where we can discover richness and renewal. We live between these worlds and they are often in conflict. Our task then is to integrate our personal conscious and unconscious world. This is called Individuation, or the Undivided Self, the goal we must strive for if we are to live in peace with ourselves and our environment.

I practice Jungian psychotherapy to help my clients implement a holistic approach in everyday life. I can best describe this approach as a dialectical process driven by the client's questions. The therapist and the client go on an explorative journey together that is often taken even in darkness. Knowing the Self is a life-long process. Therapy, if focused on solutions is time limited.

Through the process of examining the unconscious material in our psyche, we are able to put aside the barriers we have built in order to transform pain and suffering into a meaningful agenda for life. By increasing our capacity for understanding and relating to the unconscious self, we build internal strengths and resources that reveal a sense of wholeness and fulfillment.

Values and Philosophy

My Philosophy and values center on a holistic approach to wellness. When we commit to the ongoing elaboration of self-knowledge, we begin a process through which we are able to develop and balance the physical, mental, psychological and spiritual realms of life in order to become coherent and integrated beings.

Therapeutic Technique and Methodology

My counseling approach helps people open paths for themselves that will bring them closer to their authentic self and to find a more effective way of living. This approach is helpful for specific and general life difficulties and questions. I use material that comes through dreams, feelings, thoughts and images and symbolic material found in art, mythology and poetry. All of this connects the individual's historical past with the present mind-body universe.
