Values and Philosophy

I believe that humans are equipped with an active instinct, an inner voice that can gauge what is best for us, and when we listen to this part of ourselves we become more balanced. When we are overwhelmed with stress it is difficult to be in touch with ourselves. I can be a catalyst for positive change by working with you to bring out this inner wisdom through a trusting and safe working environment. "Humans are in a constant state of transition, emerging, evolving, becoming. Being a person implies that we are discovering and making sense of our existence. We continually question ourselves, others, and the world” (Corey, 1996).

Therapeutic Technique and Methodology

I tailor my approach based on the needs of each individual client. I help clients explore their own personal goals, work with them to develop the necessary tools and effective coping skills, and support them through a journey towards positive change. I guide the client to become more aware of their own needs and therapeutic goals, enabling them to make their own choices to take control over their lives. Approaches that I generally use in therapy are Cognitive-Behavioral, Validation, Client-Centered, Gestalt and Reality therapy. At times Psychoanalytic therapy is warranted in order to better understand current thoughts, feelings and behaviors. Relationship issues, co-dependency and divorce: I can explore and help you identify what is not working in your relationships and how to empower yourself and gain healthy habits. Depression; Studies show that counseling reduces the symptoms of depression. It can be helpful to identify its roots, understand it’s symptoms and develop strategies and behaviors to feel better. I offer depression and suicide assessment. Self-esteem: You have the tools within yourself to feel good about yourself, be confident and proud. I can help bring them out! Grief and Loss; Grieving can be a debilitating experience. It can be helpful to work with a counselor to process your grief experience. “Grief can be healed when received by a caring other" (Wendy Lustbader, Seattle Social worker/speaker).  Anxiety: I can help you identify triggers, relaxation techniques, and coping skills to reduce your anxiety. A loved one with Dementia: Having a loved one with Dementia is isolating and you don’t have to navigate support and resources on your own. I offer family support, education, resources, dementia assessments and consultation to put you in the right direction.
