Values and Philosophy
I draw upon humanistic values, theories and skills as well as those of cognitive behavioral therapy and systems theory. I believe we all can grow throughout life, even from profound pain and confusion. We can cherish, reclaim and utilize our existing or dormant strengths and gifts. We can add to and refine our personal and interpersonal self-care, gifts and life skills. I believe that we can deepen and enrich our lives and other lives and life systems around us. Therapy can be useful in assisting in these processes. It can be a safe and supportive zone in which to explore, discover, recover, learn and grow. I believe that the therapy relationship and teamwork are core foundations for the progress toward the client(s)'s goals.
Therapeutic Technique and Methodology
I draw upon and individually tailor a combination of a variety of tools and approaches including: cognitive- behavioral therapy, psychodrama, couples therapy approaches such as those of John Gotman (A Couples Guide to Communication), family communication and strengthening models of Virginia Satir or Jean Clark (Self-Esteem, A Family Affair), mindfulness skills, visualization and hypnosis, body movement, breathing and systematic relaxation training, holistic incorporation of the arts, writing, exercise, sleep improvement skills,&/or increasing wholesome nutrition. I can work with you and your healthcare provider, with your consent, to insure teamwork in medication and other health/wellness interventions. I support your efforts in 12 step or other recovery programs you may be participating in.

Payment Information and Hours
Availability: Please contact me for scheduling and rate information.
* some weekend and evening sessions: I am available for some weekend and evening sessions for people who could not otherwise participate in therapy due to work or family schedule conflicts.
* I am sometimes available for phone counseling when disability or travel presents a significant challenge for in-office counseling. I would need to have at least one in-office session and assess the situation before providing that service, on a case by case basis, however.
Insurance : With your consent, I will assist you with receipts or other provider paperwork as necessary for your insurance companies reimbursement of your approved portion of out-of-network counseling. Insurance companies may expect access to your counseling records if you pursue payment through them and you may be asked to give up your right to having me keep only minimal records (“minimal” as defined by state regulations). You can check with your insurance company representative regarding coverage, co-pays, privacy and paperwork specifics. I have been previously approved as part of a clinic team and will soon apply to some insurance companies as a solo practice therapist. I am unclear how long it may take each company to decide, but will update this site if there are changes in insurance participation.
Washington State Department of Vocational Rehabilitation: I am an approved provider for DVR assessments and counseling. If you are a DVR client, a formal referral from DVR will usually cover your assessment &/or brief counseling.
Physicians, or women of limited income: There are some community resources I can assist you in accessing which may cover at least some of our therapy fees if you are a physician, or a woman of limited income.
